young people, will focus on strengthening the network that was formed at
the, “Stopping War where it Begins:Organizing Against Militarism in Our
Schools.”, conference that took place in June 2003. Time will be devoted
to: Discussing the status of the network, briefing new members, and
electing a new steering committee; Strategizing about how to improve the
effectiveness of US counter recruitment work, locally and nationally’

southern half of Square 37 in the West End. This neighborhood is
exploding with million-dollar condo construction projects, and we are
the last affordable housing in the neighborhood. At risk is
our
building, 2 historic townhouses, and the West End Public Library. It is
David vs. Goliath, and we could use your help. There will be a public
hearing on the issue in front of the Zoning Commission. If anyone can
come and say a few words in support of rent control, affordable housing,

No More Prisons - Exposing Brutality From Baghdad to D.C.

Politicians may express shock over the photos emerging from Abu Ghraib
Prison, but those with a first hand knowledge of the U.S. armed forces
and the prison system are all too familiar with such brutality. When Lou
Plummer left military service, the only decent job he could find in his
walked off the job in disgust at the racism he witnessed in
prisons. Shujaa Graham was only 19 years old when he was sent to prison
in
rights and Black liberation movement. In 1973, a corrections officer was
killed during a prison fight and Shujaa was railroaded for the crime and
sent to death row. He spent 4 years there until he was exonerated and
released. Two men, one Black one white. One a former prison guard, one a
former inmate. They will join socialist activist Virginia Harabin in a
discussion of occupation, the criminal justice system, and resistance.

again on May 15 with fresh produce, flea market treasures, and plenty of
fanfare and fun. Along with our farmers and vendors, we on the CHCM
committee are looking forward to another great season!Join us this
Saturday for local luscious strawberries, asparagus, tender lettuce,
spinach, onions, radishes, cut flowers and bedding plants. Cakes,
cobbler, cookies, and prepared foods. Also take a minute to browse the
variety of vendors : Furniture, African crafts and
textiles,
hand-crafted jewelry, oils, incense, ornaments, toys, household
decorations, candles, jeans, and a variety of things.
Community organizations are welcome to set up tables for outreach or
fundraising, at no charge. A major purpose of this marketplace is
community-building. You and your friends can help further by
volunteering to staff on Saturdays, or join one of the
